Grovehill residents could be voting on neighbourhood plan soon

The Grovehill Future Neighbourhood Plan was officially submitted to Dacorum Borough Council on Monday March 13th.

The plan has been in the pipeline for five years, and puts focus on enabling growth on the estate, utilising underused spaces, as well as improvements to Henry Wells Square and blocks of garages.

Leading the way in tenant engagement

Dacorum Borough Council are the first housing provider in the country to achieve a nationally recognised standard for its approach to tenant involvement.

Their Housing team was awarded the Pro Landlord accreditation from Tpas, the leading experts for tenant engagement. The team was praised for the wide range of involvement opportunities for its tenants and leaseholders, including focus groups, community events, surveys and a Youth Tenant Involvement group.

Carpet firm agrees 122,000sq ft distribution lease

Bury-based flooring firm Cormar Carpets has agreed a lease for a new distribution centre in Hemel Hempstead.

The new 122,730sq ft distribution hub is located at the Prologis Park Hemel Hempstead on Hertfordshire Boundary Way, with the agreement secured through logistics real estate firm Prologis.

Mediation Hertfordshire were delighted to receive a High Sheriff Award at the ceremony which took place at County Hall on the 16th March 2017.  The award was in recognition of Partnership working across the County and the Organisation was specifically commended for volunteer engagement.

Funding boost for school science equipment

Business Ambassador Astley Cooper School received a £1,000 donation for new science equipment from Amazon’s Hemel fulfilment centre. The school was given the donation during British Science Week, as part of the Amazon in the Community programme. Amazon is giving £1,000 to secondary schools in areas where it operates across the UK, to support their British Science Week activity.

10 tonnes of rubbish cleared from A41 in ‘costly’ tidy-up

Nearly 10 tonnes of rubbish was cleared from the A41 in a clean-up operation in February which cost around £25,000. During the blitz, two teams picked up litter from slip roads, junctions and grass verges as well as the central reservation along a 26-mile stretch of the road from the M25 junction to the boundary with Buckinghamshire.

CINEWORLD TO COMPLETE RENOVATION OF 17 SCREEN MULTIPLEX CINEMA IN HEMEL HEMPSTEAD IN MARCH

Cineworld has announced that it will be introducing a new superscreen auditorium at its Hemel Hempstead multiplex, which will give the cinema 17 screens in total.

The venue, in Jarman Park, is currently undergoing a full renovation, which once complete will boast 1,788 seats across all of its screens. The new ceiling-high and wall-to-wall superscreen gives a brighter 3D experience and high quality sound levels with speakers that are powered by 44 amplifiers. 

The screen will also complement the IMAX theatre currently within the venue.

Hemel Hempstead's Max Whitlock gets MBE from the Queen

Hemel Hempstead's golden gymnast Max Whitlock has said he is 'honoured' - after he received an MBE from the Queen. Max, 24, who was born in the town and hails from Adeyfield, won two gold medals and one bronze medal in a memorable summer at the Rio Olympics in 2016.

£60k works to River Bulbourne in Hemel Hempstead ‘thrill’ Box Moor Trust

The end results of work that was carried out to narrow the River Bulbourne have ‘thrilled’ the Box Moor Trust.

The Trust, along with the Environment Agency, has funded the re-routing of a one kilometre stretch of the river from Fishery Road to Two Waters Road in Boxmoor.

A41 clear-up operation begins 

Dacorum Borough Council

Dacorum Borough Council have begun the huge operation of clearing litter from a 26-mile stretch of the A41.

Work started on Monday 6 February to clear rubbish from the central reservation. Once complete, they will tackle the slip roads, junctions and grass verges.

More than 10.5 tonnes of litter and bulky rubbish was collected in the last clear-up, which cost an estimated £40,000.

Get a taste of the Alps - in Hemel Hempstead

The closest thing to the Alps in England is just an hour’s drive from London– the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire.

The Snow Centre has two roomy slopes under one giant roof, with ‘real’ snow. The main run is 500ft long, the largest lesson slope in Britain, so there is plenty of space for nervous skiers to practise while more seasoned thrill-seekers can let rip.

We're celebrating the platinum anniversary of Hemel Hempstead being declared a New Town.

It was 70 years ago - on 4 February in 1947 - that the town was earmarked for expansion, coming to the rescue of Londoners living in slum housing or whose homes had been bombed during the Second World War. An ambitious building programme began and the first New Town residents moved into their homes in Adeyfield in 1950.

Private GP service in demand over Christmas

A new, private healthcare facility in Hemel Hempstead says demand for its GP services across the four-day festive holiday period was high, when other GP services in Herts were shut. One Stop Doctors, which opened in November on Boundary Way, said more than 30 patients saw one of its GPs between Christmas Eve and December 27, with some patients even coming into the clinic on Christmas Day.

The Freemen of the Borough of Dacorum Great Sheep Drive

Sunday 23rd October was a fine autumn morning.  The sun was shining, the Aldbury Morris Men were dancing, Gentle Jazz played and several Freemen of the Borough were exercising their ancient right to drive sheep up the Old High Street in Hemel Hempstead. 

The event was held in aid of the Mayor of Dacorum’s two charities this year – the Dacorum Community Trust and Community Action Dacorum.

Committed to get muddy and tackle a variety of challenging obstacles including filthy swamps, slippery slides and skips full of cold, muddy, water dotted around the stunning gardens of Ashridge House, all to fund local Hospice care, their collective effort is set to raise over £100,000.
